Maryland Staycation Ideas

With gas and airline prices sky high right now, many homeowners are choosing to stay close to home this summer. The truth is, as lifelong Maryland residents ourselves, we can't think of a better place to vacation. In this article, we will share some fun Maryland outings for families of all sizes.

Maryland is a great place to visit for its many historical landmarks, beautiful scenery, and fun activities for families. Maryland is also home to several professional sports teams, making it a great place to catch a game or two during your staycation.

Something For Everyone

Every year thousands of people choose Maryland as their vacation destination.  Why not take advantage of all it has to offer for your family. There is something for everyone in Maryland. Maryland has it all if you are interested in exploring the state’s history, soaking up some sun on the beach, or enjoying the outdoors.

Start With Sports

Maryland is home to many professional sports teams, including the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens, and the Washington Commanders, not to mention the University of Maryland Football and Basketball. If you’re looking for a fun activity during your staycation, catch a game at one of Maryland’s many stadiums.

History In Your Backyard

Maryland is home to several historical landmarks, such as the Maryland State House, Fort McHenry, Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum, Fort Washington Park, and Antietam National Battlefield. If you’re interested in learning more about the history of Maryland, be sure to visit one of these landmarks during your staycation.

Don't forget, Washington DC is just down the road as well.

Beautiful Parks

Maryland has many beautiful parks and gardens, perfect for a picnic or a leisurely stroll. If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, Maryland’s parks and gardens are the perfect places to relax and rejuvenate. We love hiking on the Maryland side of Great Falls National Park, camping and seeing the ponies at Assateague State Park, and swimming at Cunningham Falls State Park.  But there are so many to choose from.  Don't let us limit you.

Theaters and Performing Arts

There is plenty of culture to be found in Maryland too.  From Broadway shows to children's theater to musical performances your choices are endless.  Consider the Hippodrome at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in Baltimore for a night out as a couple or with the whole family, Imagination Stage in Bethesda is a local theater that offers a variety of shows for the entire family, and the Maryland Hall For The Performing Arts never fails to amaze us with their performances.

Beaches

Did you know that Maryland has over 3000 miles of shoreline?  That's right.  If you love spending a day by the water, you are sure to find a place that fits your personality.  While Ocean City is our most well-known beach, there are so many to choose from.  You can spend your day on the bay, by the riverside, or enjoy a day on Deep Creek.  You can't go wrong, no matter what you choose.

Bed & Breakfast

Just because you aren't traveling this year, doesn't mean you can't find a great place to stay. Maryland has a number of charming bed and breakfasts, perfect for a romantic getaway. If you’re looking for a cozy place to stay during your Maryland staycation, look no further than one of Maryland’s many bed and breakfasts. Downtown Annapolis and Ellicott City have some of our favorites.

As a locally owned business, we understand the importance of saving money while still keeping everyone happy this year.  We hope you enjoyed this list of fun Maryland activities. If you need any home projects completed this summer, we’ll be around! Just give us a call at (443) 690-3493.
